The book has been reprinted and anthologized in a variety of editions. But I find it far more powerful and memorable, far more rich in texture and implication, than such a contemporary work of perfect tastefulness and impeccable ideology as Richard McGuire’s epic of virtuoso banality, Here. This top-quality, low-cost republication of Ward’s masterpiece will be welcomed by collectors of his work as well as by readers new to his achievement.
This genre preceded the modern graphic novel, but it is very different in that there are no words beyond signs I thought that this would take longer to read, but I have to say that it is still time well spent.
There are no discussion topics on this book yet. After giving away all his money, he is unable to pay for his food and tries to bargain using his painting, but unsuccessfully. Remains, particularly and surprisingly well-preserved; tight, bright, clean and strong.

I thought that this would take longer to read, but I have to say that it is still time well spent. It is the first of Ward’s six wordless novels, and is the first American wordless novel. Gods’ Man By Ward, Lynd.
The story is clear, but not original–follows a predictable Faustian template. Although best known for his “novels in woodcuts,” Ward was also a successful illustrator of children’s books. A serviceable copy of Ward’s wordless masterpiece in woodcuts, lacking the scarce jacket. His hopelessness is detected by a shadowy figure who then offers him a magical paintbrush, but he has to sign a contract!
The binding is tight and square; the pages are crisp and clean; bookplate of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

The story here is pretty simple, and a familiar one, and the pace is fast it probably only took me 20 min but it was worthwhile and has some really great little woodcuts in it. I flipped through it, marveled at the absurd intricacies and craftmanship of the woodblock prints, and just kind of A smashing success upon its release, it announced the arrival of a genius.
